This yellow gold Vendôme Column table cigarette lighter was created in 1950 and testifies to Van Cleef & Arpels' taste for decorative items that represent the essence of French life. Engraved with Napoleonic friezes, and with Napoléon's statue placed at the very top, the cigarette lighter is a replica of the Vendôme column, centerpiece of the famous Place Vendôme, which has long been famous as the capital's heart for jewelry. Having been purchased in 1951 by Egyptian prime minister Hussein Sirri Pasha, the cigarette lighter was integrated into the Van Cleef & Arpels Collection in the early 2000s.
