Now in the Van Cleef & Arpels Collection, the Barquerolles Lion necklace was once part of the private collection of the actress Elizabeth Taylor. The Barquerolles Lion necklace was given to her by Richard Burton in 1971 to mark the birth of her first grandchild, hence the couple's pet name for the piece: the “granny necklace.”
The passionate love story that united these two Hollywood idols abounds with exceptional jewelry. Inspired by Venetian door knockers, this piece depicts a lion’s head, the mane resplendent with several dozen components shaped like miniature gondolas interconnected by a mesh system, making it remarkably flexible. The necklace can be transformed into two bracelets, as well as a clip representing an emerald-eyed lion’s head and a pendant made up of a double ring.
